The work follows specific guidelines and established procedures. Employees are expected to use good judgment and common sense in situations that arise and to contact/notify school administration regarding unusual and volatile situations and/or disturbances. There is generally considerable contact with students and school staff.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The listed examples are intended to represent typical duties assigned to the classification and may not include all duties that may be assigned. Not every position performs all of the duties listed. Performs other duties as assigned.(E) Identifies essential functions.*Walks around a school campus and supervises students in areas such as cafeterias, restrooms, classrooms, corridors, parking areas, on playgrounds, in bus loading/unloading areas and on other areas of the school campus. (E)*Supervises students at the front of the school for arrivals/dismissals and at recess. (E) *Assists at meal times; assists with cleaning and clearing tables, as needed. (E)*Escorts or accompanies students to/from the office, classrooms, nurse's office, buses, etc. (E)*Ensures that student behavior is appropriate, and writes referrals to teachers or site administrator for misconduct. (E)*Reports all campus incidents and accidents to Site Administration Office. (E)*May be assigned to the school office to assist. *May assist students in designated crosswalks. *May lock/unlock school gates and doors. *Attempts to create positive mood of self-discipline amongst children*Models expected behaviors for students. (E) *Uses a whistle and two-way radio as needed.*May assist in caring for injured or ill children. *Attends staff meetings, in-service activities, workshops, conferences and other training as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:*High school diploma or equivalent.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:*Knowledge of or ability to learn and follow school policies, procedures, rules, regulations and operations.*Skill and ability to read, understand and follow instructions, procedures, rules and regulations.*Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and directions.*Skill, knowledge and ability to work with individual students or groups of students and handle a variety of student situations.*Skill and ability to supervise students and adapt to individual needs of students.*Ability to work with interruptions. *Ability to recognize disturbances and volatile situations and take appropriate actions to notify school administration.*Ability to make minor decisions within the framework of established guidelines.*Skill and ability to write clearly. *Ability to maintain a professional attitude and behavior and strong customer service focus at all times.*Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.*Skill and ability to use tact, patience and courtesy in interpersonal relationships, exercise good judgment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.*Ability to work independently or in a team environment.*Ability to use a whistle and two-way radio.PROCTOR Page 2OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:*Possession of or willingness and ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.*Ability to operate two way radio.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: The physical requirements below are necessary to perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable a person with a disability to perform these functions.*Work environment involves indoor and outdoor monitoring activities on a school campus in all kinds of weather. Requires willingness and ability to work effectively by continuously walking and moving about in offices, classroom, restrooms, cafeterias, etc., walking and moving over uneven and sometimes slippery ground, in hot, cold and rainy weather, and working around frequent noise.*Physical, mental and emotional stamina to work under sometimes stressful conditions, with frequent distractions and interruptions and deal with angry/upset people in a calm and professional manner.*Sufficient hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to write, prepare reports and use a whistle and two-way radio.*Sufficient visual acuity to see and read small print and to monitor student behavior in close proximity and from a distance.*Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person and telephone conversations.*Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, in addressing groups, or communicating with students on the playground.*Sufficient mobility and ability to walk, bend, stoop, stand and move around for extended periods of time.*Ability to run if needed to catch children.*Ability to lift and assist up to 30 pounds on an intermittent basis.
