NASA Armstrong is seeking novel ways to manage its vast amounts of data and information to improve user access, efficiency, and retention. The NASA environment is perhaps unique in the scope of its information operations. Users generate and require access to a variety of data types including test (ground and flight), programmatic, operations, organizational, and multimedia data that typically have multiple, independent storage, access and retrieval solutions. The opportunity exists to greatly improve the capability and efficiency of Armstrong data management. This assignment focuses on the development of an automated testing capability for an immense and immersive flight data access and data visualization system that is designed to help users locate, access, and manipulate various test data files. Ultimately, this increased and faster access to test data files will result in significantly increased research activities and research potential. Goals include learning and understanding the functionality of the prototyped enterprise architecture, data analysis and data storage environment, and the communications between systems. Intern developers will work directly with the developers of the enterprise architecture and data analysis/storage environment to develop and document use case test scenarios, and design and develop automated functional and system test capabilities. This automated test capability is an integral part of the long term sustainment of the system. Intern developers will apply advanced software techniques and utilize modern computational systems. They will participate in a large, IT development project and will have access to NASA Armstrong's flight test, simulation, and lab data. Subject matter experts will be available to assist in various aspects of the assignment. Requirements Proficiency in the following is highly desired: Java, C++, J2EE. Competency in some of the following is 'nice to have': Jax-WS, Jax-Security (or web security, in general), XML parsing (eg, Jax-Bindings), Netbeans, Eclipse. Expected Opportunity Outcome Recommendations for proposed knowledge management improvements. Intern will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about enterprise architecture design and development among a plethora of other applications. Utilize advanced software development techniques to create automated testing capability for the Flight Data Access system. An oral presentation and software code review will be conducted near the end of the internship.
